The Onyx Hotel – Boston, Massachusetts
When we were planning our trip to Vermont, the easiest airport to fly in and out of was Boston. And due to flight times, we thought it would be easiest to just stay a night in Boston on our way in. As with any US travel, my preference for hotels is always Kimpton. I’ve worked with the brand for years now and I love staying at their hotels and promoting them to anyone I can – they are that good! In Boston, we had our choice of a few Kimpton properties and we settled on the Onyx (after staying at the Nine Zero property a few years back).
LOVE
The Location – If you are only staying in Boston for a quick overnight and want to be fairly close to the airport, this is a great spot. Even though it’s downtown Boston, it’s only about a 10-15 minute drive from Logan Airport.
Decor – The witty and punchy decor is one of the things that made me choose the Onyx over Boston’s other Kimpton properties. It’s fun and eclectic throughout the hotel.
The Staff – The staff at check in were wonderful and very helpful!
DIDN’T LOVE
Long Waits for Valet – When we arrived Friday night, there was no valet in sight anywhere. We went in, checked in and still the valet had yet to show up. As well, upon our departure Saturday morning, we called down for our car about 10 minutes before heading down ourselves. When we got downstairs, the valet was nowhere to be found. Then after 5 minutes or so when he arrived, he hadn’t even gone to get the car yet which left us waiting in the rain. Definitely need more communication in this department at the hotel.
TIPS
If you’re valet parking your car overnight here, the price is a steep $47. So be aware of that up front.
If you want to explore the city of Boston, I would recommend one of the other Kimpton properties in the city. The Onyx is great for a quick stopover but it’s not very close to a lot of other parts of the city to explore.
Land of Marvels was welcomed to the Onyx Hotel as a guest (at a discounted rate), though all opinions are my own for this review.
