At the beginning of another month, heading into the last couple months of 2020 and here we are at another life update. While this year feels like we’ve all lived 50 decades, it also feels like it’s flying by insanely fast. Whether that’s good or bad, I’m not entirely sure but every time I look at the calendar and see we’re nearing the end of another month, I’m a little shell shocked. This year has been a challenge to say the least and while I’ve definitely had some great high’s this year, I’ve also had extreme lows like the rest of the world. I’m not sad to see us getting towards the end of it and trying to start again, beginning anew and moving forward. Here’s what we’ve been up to for the last few months and what’s ahead!
Life + Everyday
At the beginning of the year, I was working really hard to grow my design business and spent the first half of the year basically hearing no after no and was feeling pretty deflated. Mid-year, I had a lot of personal stuff going on and I set my business on the back burner a bit, only to then have a lot of different paths open up suddenly. All that work I had been putting in, it was actually paying off just a little further down the road than I had pictured. I started working with new clients and I started teaching Interior Design classes again at a local university. I’ve loved being back in the classroom and it’s been a wonderful return to teaching which I love so very much. In short, my professional life is crazy busy again and I’m sure that’s partly to do with how fast the months are flying by.
Personally, after some emotional months earlier this year, I really changed who I keep in my everyday life and removed some people that just weren’t adding anything to my life and were in fact adding stress and drama. It was the best decision I could have made. I am infinitely happier and I’ve realized how important it is to do what is necessary for your own mental health. If that means certain people might not get to be a part of your life, then that’s the choice we all have to make. For me, I feel like I’m finally back to my old self and I’m feeling good.
Travel
After months earlier in the year of trying to figure out how to keep travel alive in our lives even with the pandemic in full swing and having to cancel trip after trip, we finally hit a groove this Summer and Fall and got to explore a lot of different places. After visiting my parents almost every month in the LA area, we’ve explored a lot of places near where they live including Ojai, Venice Beach and the Newport Coast. We also got to explore Northern Washington including Bellingham, Lynden and Fairhaven. We’ve stuck to the West Coast in our explorations but it’s actually given us a really great reason to see so much of the States that are close to home.
House Renovation
While most of our interior spaces are finished or almost finished, the biggest home renovation project that we tackled recently was painting the exterior of our house. When we canceled our Europe trip for our 10 year wedding anniversary that was set for October, we decided that we should just go for a project that we’d been putting off for two years, ever since we moved in. Painting the house was a project I’ve long wanted to tackle and we decided to just go for it as we were saving a bunch of money not traveling. It’s seriously the best thing we could have done and the transformation is incredible. Our house really feels like our own now and the color suits both my own aesthetic as well as the style of the house and it’s just perfect!
Next up over the Winter, I’m hoping to do renovations on our Master Bedroom as well as adding artwork here and there around the house.
